60's 70's Garage, Rock, Blues, Soul & Country

I live in College Station TX. I collect vinyl records starting back in the early 70's. I like many genres of music. Hooked on classic retro film. I listen mostly to music from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. See My Archive Favorites for a wealth of free music downloads. Previously all saved favorites were a simple text description until the new site makeover in 2015.

Back in the 1980's, I listened to this fantastic radio station, CFNY FM 102.1, The Spirit of Radio. The Spirit was the little station that could. CHUM FM had shifted to an MOR/AOR format; CILQ "Q-107" was playing the stuff that CHUM FM used to play. The FM airwaves were pretty sterile and even cloyingly sweet in those days. Up the dial at 102.1, there was this unusual and refreshing station. They were "alternative" long before there was such a genre. For the best synopsis...

ZOTS is a two-person songwriting and recording project, heavily influenced by 1960s and 70s rock, pop and R&B. We wrote all of the songs, played all of the instruments, and did all of the engineering and recording ourselves on "vintage" analog equipment.

Florida punks Blast and the Detergents erupt from the swamplands once again with Brain Time Now, their 2nd full length album. 17 tracks of Lo-fi schizo garage punk and epic noisy rock n roll that brings to mind Richard Hell, Black Flag, Sonic Youth and The Nation of Ulysses. Epic riffs splattered in noisy feedback make this one a winner all around.   Buy the 12" Vinyl of Brain Time Now here: http://noclearrecords.blogspot.com/2012/02/brain-time-now-vinyl-lp.html

Their sound filters soul, garage, and girl group influences through the raw attack of punk rock calling to mind bands like the The Bags, The Avengers crossed with the Shangri-Las crossed with the Dead Boys! The Choke is currently finishing its debut full-length LP with Tony Barber, bassist/producer of the legendary Buzzcocks, again behind the boards. Hear why THE CHOKE'S demo was in...

A STAR IS BORN... DragStrip Riot formed in April of 2001 following Viva Las Vegas, the annual rockabilly weekender in Sin City. Born as a reaction to a stale music scene, three members of a Seattle car club joined forces with a punk rock drummer, setting the wheels in motion for a musical coup de tat. Frontman and group founder, Steve Bostick introduced guitarist James Norvell and bassist Matt McClusky to drummer Jason Frost. Longtime friends and former bandmates, the chemistry between Frost...

This was recorded in the first few months of the band's existence with the intent of sending it in to WFBE's "Take No Prisoners" radio show for airplay. The first tracks aired in the Spring of 1983 and the band would continue playing for decades to come, becoming the longest-running band in the Flint underground music scene. "We already had a beat-up Sears acoustic guitar on which we learned to bash out a few basic chords. Although we didn’t know it at the time, we were a band...

Gilesi over at the amazing music blog “Cosmic Minds at Play” once mused about the Duke City garage band scene in 1960s: “I have no idea what Albuquerque, New Mexico was like as a place to live in the mid 60s but it certainly seems to have had more than its fair share of top class garage bands, so I can only assume that there was a wild scene going on among its young denizens.” Countless semi-pro and professional bands drew inspiration by watching The Fab Four’s landmark appearance on...

The Alcohol Helltones were a garage band from Victoria Texas that formed in 1996 and has since disbanded. Self described as laying that kinda drunk, sweaty, sometimes outta tune garage punk rock n roll music. (30 min.) Free legal mp3 download created through my podcast producers account at podsafe music network. No hassles, No bull, just a rock n roll journey through cyberspace thanks to bandwidth eating pulsations. Dog8mybag Stoned Again Productions, Austin Texas USA...

Here is a nice set of vintage (1950s-1960s) country songs and novelty numbers that helped shape my guitar/vocal presentation style. Plus -they are delightful and fun to party to. A Country Party Set, and I have a LOT more to present in this wide genre, so stay tuned.

O.K. sugarbabies; are you sitting down? Well, get your asses up and prepare to shake the proverbial tailfeather--because Andre "Mr Rhythm" Williams is BACK and he's baaaaaad!! Bloodshot Records is pleased, nay, honored to bring you this platter: Red Dirt , 14 country-SOUL smokers slathered in grit and grease and Andre's high-mileage, velvety growl, with sexy booty bottom provided by Toronto's masters of spaghetti western-surf-garage-punk, The Sadies . This is a menage a trois made in...

A heavy, at times very heavy raucous of garage rock revivalism and cowpunkattitude that was hewn out of Marshall stacks and Fuzztone benders.

Here is a 48 minute Stereo recording of KOIT 93.3 San Francisco. Country & Western radio program from August 29th, 1971. Mostly music, a couple songs that didn't make it, and some classics from the "KOIT Tower of Country Memories", and a few jingles. I found this tape on a 7" reel in a thrift shop 20 years ago. Great Music!!   Noteworthy: KOIT Stereo 93.3 in San Francisco, Was only a Country & Western format for a short time. Station Director at the time was Bill Holley,...
